Einkorn and White Flour 50-50 Bread Machine Loaf
About this recipe:
Lighter than a wholemeal loaf, Half and Half loaves are a great way to bake with artisan flours. Made with a mixture of einkorn flour and strong white bread flour, you can taste the goodness in this loaf and others such as our Emmer and White Flour 50-50 Bread Machine Loaf or Rye Wholemeal and White Flour 50-50 Bread Machine Loaf.
Equipment:
bread machine with large bread pan
Ingredients:
1 tsp Doves Farm Quick Yeast
250g Doves Farm Organic Wholemeal Einkorn Flour
250g Doves Farm Organic Strong White Bread Flour
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp oil
350ml water
Method:
- Put the ingredients into the bread machine pan in the order recommended by the machine manufacturer.
- Close the lid and turn the machine to the whole wheat rapid bread setting.
- Select your preferred crust option if available on the machine.
- Check the pan is locked into position and start the machine.
- Remove the bread pan from the machine as soon as it has finished baking.
- Tip the bread out of the pan and remove the mixer paddle from the bottom of the loaf.
- Cool the bread on a wire rack.
Yesterday was my first time to try a recipe with Einkorn flour. The result was outstanding! I followed the recipe exactly and used the "Ultrafast" setting on my machine. Next time I'll set it for a darker crust, but it rose beautifully and I love the flavor. Thank you!

Prior to finding Doves Farm I’d never heard of ancient grain flour, loved the history behind them so thought I’d give it a go! This 50/50 - Einkorn & strong white - was my first attempt, bear in mind I’m not a cook my husband does all the cooking this recipe was so easy for a numbskull like me to follow. Put all the ingredients into the bread maker selected relevant cycle, pressed start & 3 hours later this delicious loaf was cooling on a rack! The loaf looked lovely & tasted sublime, light with a semi ‘crusty crust’, I’ve now ordered all the ancient grain flours & intend to work my way through the recipes - who knows I might even try some by hand! Doves Farm you are amazing, I look forward to years - what I have left - of bread making with my ancient grains!
