White Sauce with Cornflour

About this recipe:
White Sauce with Cornflour is a classic sauce which is quick, simple to make and the perfect match for a variety of dishes. Turn this basic sauce into cheese sauce by adding 150g of grated cheese at the end of cooking. For a vegan sauce simply swap the milk and cheese to your favourite plant version.
Equipment:
saucepan and mixing bowl
Ingredients:
600ml milk (or plant milk)
4 tbsp Doves Farm Organic Cornflour
salt and pepper
Method:
- Measure the milk into a saucepan then remove five tablespoons of the milk to a bowl.
- Heat the pan of milk until it is almost boiling then take it off the heat.
- Add the cornflour to the cold milk stirring to make a smooth paste.
- Pour half of the hot milk onto the paste stirring as you do this.
- Tip the mixture back into the saucepan.
- Return the pan to the heat and stir as the sauce thickens.
- Allow the sauce to bubble gently and cook for a minute while stirring.
- Stir and season with salt and pepper.
