Vegan Vanilla Custard using Cornflour

Dreamy meets healthy in this delicious vegan vanilla custard, bursting with flavour and a great alternative - fantastic base for several sweet treats.

Change Quantities:
  1. Measure the milk into a saucepan then remove five tablespoons of the milk to a bowl.
  2. Add the sugar and vanilla extract to the saucepan.
  3. Heat the pan of milk, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved.
  4. Bring the milk almost to the boil then take it off the heat.
  5. Add the cornflour to the cold milk stirring to make a smooth paste.
  6. Poor half of the hot milk onto the paste stirring as you do this.
  7. Tip the mixture back into the saucepan.
  8. Return the pan to the heat and stir as the custard thickens.
  9. Allow the custard to bubble gently and cook for a minute while stirring.
  10. Pour the custard into a jug and serve.

The most amazing custard!!! So easy!! I even added some cinnamon! I’m sure you could add nutmeg if you really wanted too!

So I wasn't specifically looking for a vegan recipe initially, but I didn't have the right ingredients for a traditional custard, so remembering that vegan chefs are creative as heck, I found this recipe. The flavour is just like the regular custard unbelievable!

This is brilliant! I'm a custard fiend. I can't believe it was so easy to make with items I already had in my cupboard. I added a little nutmeg for spice and 2 pinches of turmeric for custardy colouring. I'll be making this again - for sure! Thank you.

So simple quick and absolutely delicious. I made this with innocent's coconut milk and almost devoured the whole pot of custard before the cake I was meant to eat it with was ready. I dare you to follow this recipe and not be tempted to do the same

Wow! I made this for my kiddo after dental surgery and she’s locked two bowls clean! I I used maple syrup instead of sugar and added cinnamon and it tasted like a South African milk tart recipe

Better than B@@ds custard powder! I used a combination of plant milk 100ml of coconut, the rest oat. I also used coconut sugar & no salt. The consensus (two group-up and two children aged 10 & 8) AMAZING! Best custard ever!. So I'm clearing going to be making it again! Thanks Dove Farm.
