Spelt Wholemeal Bread Machine Loaf

Makes 1 loaf

Bread machines are easy and fun to use for making your own bread. Spelt wholemeal flour bakes into a substantial loaf although for a lighter loaf you could add some strong white flour to bake a Half and Half Spelt Loaf.

Bread Machine with large bread pan
I just made this in my breadmaker (which i haven't used for a couple of years) and it was delicious! The rapid programme took just an hour and the bread was so good. It won't be long till I make another loaf, so simple. I only had supermarket sachets of yeast, so used a little more than in recipe. Very light and tasty!

Just took my first spelt loaf out of the pan. I did chicken out a bit and did 50/50 with wholemeal flour and it tastes great. The only downside was that when I looked through the glass 10 minutes before cooking it appeared to have proved nicely and looked like it was going to make a perfect loaf and then 30 minutes later when I checked the top had sunk in. Will be looking to buy some more spelt flour soon so I can try again and work out what I did wrong.

First time using wholemeal Spelt flour. My bread maker's a Panasonic but getting old now, so a wholemeal fast bake is three hours. I intended to use a bit of improver in the mix, but I was in a rush and forgot! However, despite the loaf not rising quite as high as some, it's still delicious and has a lovely texture. I'm definitely a convert to Spelt!

Love this loaf! I am able to eat spelt flour but not other bread with gluten in (mainly I think because the spelt form is older / less modified and easier to digest) so this loaf is a fantastic one to make. What's even better is that everyone in the family loves it. I add a little extra yeast which seems to lighten it up just a bit. Great recipe and great Dove's Farm spelt flour - lovely bread! Making more of it at the moment as not going out to shops due to current covid 19 situation. Glad I had some in the cupboard as everywhere has sold out. We are becoming a nation of breadmakers :-)

My machine doesn't have a fast wholemeal function, but it worked on the normal white setting, It didn't rise as high as conventional wholemeal loaf.

Just made this in my new breadmaker and it is simply perfect! Lovely texture, delicious flavour, and very quick to make - 55 minutes on the fastbake setting. This will probably be my usual daily bread. Scrumptious.
