Orange and Poppy Seed Spelt Bread


  • 600g Doves Farm Organic Wholemeal Spelt Flour
  • 4 tsp Doves Farm Baking Powder
  • 25g poppy seeds
  • 1 orange, grated rind
  • 425ml natural yoghurt
  • 100ml orange juice
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • flour


  1. Line a baking tray with parchment and pre-heat the oven.
  2. Put the flour, baking powder, poppy seeds and grated orange rind into a large bowl and stir to combine.
  3. Add the yogurt, orange juice, and honey, and stir to mix.
  4. Use your hands to bring together a soft ball of dough before shaping it into an oval, 25cm/10” long.
  5. Transfer the loaf to the prepared baking tray.
  6. Dust the top with flour and using a sharp knife make diagonal cuts across the top of the loaf. Repeat the cuts in the opposite direction to form a criss-cross pattern.
  7. Bake for 75-80 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven and wrap the bread in a clean tea towel while it cools.
