White Spelt Poppy Seed Soda Bread

Makes 1 soda bread

Rustic and fragrant with a poppy seed crunch, this spelt flour soda bread is great with both sweet and savoury fillings and toppings.

Free from Egg, Soya, Nuts
Vegetarian, Without crystal sugar


Change Quantities:
  1. Pre-heat the oven.
  2. Rub some oil around the inside of a 1kg/2lb bread tin or insert a baking liner.
  3. Measure the flour and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl, stir to combine and sieve into a mixing bowl.
  4. Add the poppy seeds and stir again.
  5. Measure the yoghurt, orange juice and honey into another bowl and mix together well.
  6. Tip this into the mixing bowl and stir to make a slightly sticky dough.
  7. Tip the dough into the prepared bread tin.
  8. Dust the top with a little flour and using a sharp knife make diagonal cuts across the top of the loaf. Repeat the cuts in the opposite direction to form a crisscross pattern.
  9. Bake for 60 minutes.
  10. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.
