How To Make Your Own Flour At Home

  1. Put one type of ingredient into a coffee grinder or food processor so it is no more than a third full.
  2. Pulse a few times to make a rough powder. Pulsing is kinder to the motor of your machine which could burn out if it works too hard or gets hot.
  3. Place a sieve over a bowl and tip the powder into it.
  4. Return the coarser particles to the grinder, pulse again then add this to the bowl.
  5. Tip the flour into a bowl or storage jar.
  6. Repeat the grinding and sieving process with the next ingredient.
  7. Discard any really hard bread crusts before grinding them as they might be too difficult for your machine to grind.
  8. Continue grinding and sieving each of your other ingredients separately.
  9. For best results in your baking, blend together at least three or more types of homemade flour in roughly equal quantities.

  • Savoury Biscuits - cream crackers, grissini, breadsticks, water biscuits and oat cakes.
  • Breakfast Cereals - cornflakes, cereal flakes, chocolate stars, rice pops, other cereal shapes and granola without the fruit.
  • Cake - sponge and Madeira cake, scones, brownies, muffins, doughnuts, croissants and pancakes.
  • Stale Bread - toast, pitta bread, soda bread, wholemeal bread, English muffins, rolls, brioche and crumpets.
  • Flakes & Crumb – oats, ground almonds, breadcrumbs, cornflour and custard powder.
