Wholegrains - Our Raw Material
When we talk about wholegrain we mean cereal foods that contain all the naturally occuring components of the whole grain with no edible parts removed during processing.
Wholegrains can be defined as the edible entire grain after removal of inedible parts such as the hull and glume. Grains that have been processed by milling, cracking, crushing, rolling, flaking, extruding and malting can be wholegrain provided that the germ, endosperm, bran and other grain fractions are still present in the same or virtually the same proportion as the original grain.
Wholegrains are complex carbohydrates that are satisfying to eat and also give us energy. As we learn more about the effect on our bodies of different foods there is increasing evidence about the benefits of eating a diet rich in whole grain foods.
