Our recipe

It is inexpensive and easy to make playdough, which is of course not designed for eating! The food colouring is optional and colour coding balls of dough can make a fun birthday party activity or gift. You can use any flour but gluten free is a good choice.

Servings

Ingredients

150 gGluten Free Plain White Flour or
150 gGluten Free White Bread Flour
75 gSalt
1 tbspCooking Oil
2 tbspsCream of Tartar
½ tspFood Colouring (optional)
300 mlWater

Method

Hob Method

  1. Mix together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a saucepan.
  2. Add the water and cook, stirring over medium heat.
  3. Add the oil as the mixture thickens.
  4. Remove from the heat and add the food colouring.
  5. When cold store in an airtight container until required for play.


Microwave method

  1. Mix together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a microwavable dish.
  2. Add the water and place in the microwave.
  3. Cook on full power for 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the oil and microwave for a further minute.
  5. Remove from the heat and add the food colouring.
  6. When cold store in an airtight container until required for play.
