Easy to make in just 10 minutes and are fantastic hot with a cup of tea.
8oz gluten free plain white flour
2oz margarine
1oz caster sugar
2.5 oz sultanas or other dried fruit
1 egg
splash of milk or soya if dairy free
Measure flour into a bowl, add the margarine and rub together until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Add the caster sugar and the fruit.
Add the egg and stir, add enough milk/soya to bind together but not too mcuh as it will be hard to roll out.
If you want to roll out with a rolling pin put clingfilm on a board to place the mixture on and also on top of the mixture and roll out between the clingfilm.
Cut out the scones with a small cutter. Makes between 8-12 depending on how big you want them to be.
Cook at gas 7 for 10 minutes but check, smaller scones may only need 7 minutes. Whatever size check after 7 minutes.

Delicious but needs 4 tbsp milk. I also used SR flour, 1tsp baking powder and a tsp of cream of tartar. Soak dried fruit in the milk for at least an hour or even better blueberries or raspberries.

These taste yummy but are not scones as they don't rise. I've just made them as per recipie above and they are basically chewy biscuits. I will try them again and use self rasing flower and baking powder plus maybe some vanilla essence as per the suggestions below.

They were really tasty but took about 20 minutes too cook. Mine rose a little with self raising flour and baking powder.

Taste great however, couldn't get them to rise. 2nd attempt added baking powder put no luck.

Great scones, great taste! Don't roll too thinly! I also added 4 tablespoons of milk as the mixture was very dry and I used Doves Farm Gluten Free Self Raising Flour instead of plain flour. They rose nicely.

To Clare & Carol,
mine were flat too but tasted lovely - if you want them to rise - add a teaspoon of gluten free baking powder - Becky Price

They turned out very flat and took longer too cook

Mine took 20 minutes and are flat. I followed the recipe to the letter. What could be wrong? It would also help if the centigrade temperature was included.
