Topic: How to write a message

There are a few ways that you can write a message (or “post”) on our forum;

-Reply to a topic (or “thread”) that has already been started
-Start your own topic, if the subject has not been covered already (use the “Search” feature to check)

To post a reply to a thread that has already been started

-Scroll to the bottom of the page on the thread that you want to reply to.
-Type your reply in the white box;

-If you have included picture or website links in your reply and you want to check they are appearing properly, click the “Preview”. Amend any errors, then click “Submit”
-If you are confident that everything is right initially, just press the “Submit” button after you have written your message.

To start a new thread yourself
If a topic has not already been covered on the forum you can start a new thread to discuss it.

Tip: Start your thread in the right section of the forum, so that other visitors can find it easily. If you do not put it in a logical section, people might not read it so you will get fewer replies.

-From the forum index page, click on the forum section that best suits the subject of your message.
-When this section has loaded, click the “Post new topic” button at the top right of the page;

-The “Post new topic” form will load;

-Make sure that you enter a sensible title for your thread in the “Topic subject” box.

Tip: Titles such as “help me!” or “baking” are too general, and might not encourage people to read your post. “Why doesn’t my bread rise properly?” or “Baking with rice flour” are much better titles as they let visitors know exactly what the post is about.

A good thread title is more likely to appear in search results, so more people will read your message and hopefully respond
-Type the details of your message or query into the “Write message” box.
-If you have included picture or website links in your reply and you want to check they are appearing properly, click the “Preview”. Amend any errors, then click “Submit”
-If you are confident that everything is right initially, just press the “Submit” button after you have written your message.

Quoting another members post
A third option of adding a comment to the forum is by quoting an existing post. This is a good way to make a very specific response to a comment within a thread.

To quote an existing post
-Find the post that you want to quote.
-click the quote button in the bottom right hand corner of the message.
http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae152/DovesFarm/quote.jpg
-A reply box loads which already contains the text from the post to be quoted, wrapped in some code which makes it appear as a quote.
-Click in the reply box below this code and enter your message as normal.
-Click “Submit”. The post you quoted will appear in a highlighted box within your post.

Tip: Quoting if you want to reply to one particular post in a long thread. It means you can make your comment clearly relate to a specific post, rather than the last comment posted in the thread.

Re: How to write a message

I see that I can't post a recipe on the appropriate forum, is 199 the limit?
I tried to add a recipe on the "Add a recipe" section, but it's saying the amounts must be decimal, and I only use imperial measures. Guess I'll be keeping my cake recipes to myself, unless you can suggest another way.
Cheers.

Re: How to write a message

Hi Debs,

I'm afraid you can't post a recipe on the forum itself but you can post one on our website.

Go to: http://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/recipes/add-your-own-recipe/ and fill in your recipe. You can choose units of measurement from the drop down menu but unfortunately you cannot use fractions on there so if you could, please use: 0.25, 0.75 for meaurements that are not whole numbers if that makes sense.

Hope this helps, please do post again if you have any more difficulty.

Best wishes,

The Dove
