Kneading Bread

How long should I knead my bread for?

This is a question which we are often asked and we don't normally specify how long to do this for a couple of reasons.

Kneading organic flour for bread

A lot of people are put off by the idea of too much kneading or or because it hurts their hands so while it definitely improves a dough you can usually get a fair result with minimal kneading.

The amount of time required for kneading can also depend on the quality of flour being used. If you use a really strong flour with good gluten content then kneading will be very effective however if the flour is of lower quality and the gluten content is poor quality the kneading can be very important to help the dough development.

As a rule of thumb kneading is great for the dough so the more the merrier.
