Heritage Grain
In March 2007 the cereal archeobotanist, John Letts invited us to try growing a mixture of spring heritage wheat grain. Trial plots were set up on the farm and 45kg of April Bearded and 75kg of an ‘ancient wheat blend’ were planted. Over subsequent years the grain harvested from these plots has been re-planted and nurtured over the growing seasons.

Each year the quantity harvested has grown and the yield improved as the crop adapted to the soil conditions on the farm, creating its own landrace.
The heritage wheat grain is stoneground on our millstones to produce a hearty brown flour. It bakes into a dark, wheaty, artisan loaf, perhaps similar to the bread eaten hundreds of years ago.
Doves Farm Heritage Flour is available in 1kg retail packs and 25kg sacks.
